Shirin YadegarHappy Mother’s Day to all of you fabulous overworked, under appreciated devoted moms. It’s true that nothing is more important than our families. Childbirth is forgotten. Toddler tantrums and tween outbursts are in the past and all we focus on is providing a nurturing healthy life for our families.

How do we provide a healthy and nurturing environment for our families? It all starts with us. Happy mom happy home.

What’s the point of attending parenting seminars, volunteering in the classroom and cooking organic meals if we are constantly overworked and frustrated? It’s counterproductive.

After 13 years of marriage and 4 children, I have realized that the key to a successful home is taking time away. Here are my quick tips for enjoying motherhood. I never give advice unless it really has changed my life so here it is:

Do one thing for yourself daily. This can be anything from a workout, a cup of coffee and your newspaper or lunch with friends.

Date night weekly. You need to spend time with your partner away from your kids once a week.

Dance with your kids. Sunday Sambas in my house are a hit. We blast the music before dinner and dance like no one is looking. We forget how important it is to have fun and laugh as a family and dancing is an easy way to achieve this.

I hope you all take a moment for yourselves this Mother’s Day to appreciate your hard work and devotion and know I will.
