Thanksgiving is the season for celebrating family and friends, which is why this holiday is my favorite. I always go the extra mile to make the festivities fun for kids and meaningful for everyone else.
I like to start setting the mood with decorations and preparations far in advance of actually sitting down to eat. After Halloween has shut down the scary season, I like to take my children to the local farm. We buy small pumpkins and other festive looking squashes. Don’t worry if you can’t make it to a local farm – just visit your local Trader Joe’s, which has really been getting into the holiday season. You can find pomegranates, small pumpkins, squashes, irregular pumpkins, twigs with small pumpkins on them and beautiful colored oversized leaves. You really do not have to go very far to gather a few items to enhance your table and buffet decor.

Boo. Let the friendly witch hop on her broom so she can spread love, delicious food, touches of elegance and fun and laughter throughout your haunted home.
When hosting a Halloween party, it is always important to figure out for whom you are entertaining. Often times, it is equally for the kid in all of us as it is for our actual children. If you have toddlers, you are going to want to make sure the ghosts and goblins are funny and inviting (think Caspar the Friendly Ghost). But, if you are hosting teenagers, do not be afraid to make it as scary as you can! Either way, the food, drinks, lighting, place settings and décor can all be a lot of fun – fill them with handmade creativity and personal touches.

I love entertaining. It’s what I do best. Inviting friends over for barbeques, cocktails and large family dinners are weekly events at my home. For the first time in several years, I was stumped over a luncheon I hosted for a close friend’s birthday last month.
Forty beautiful, sophisticated women were coming over at noon for lunch. How was I going to knock their socks off, impress the guest of honor and not spend a fortune?
The first thing I did was call my party coordinator. Eddie told me he would take care of the waiters, bartender and all of my rentals. He said to keep everything white and bring in color with the flowers.
Father’s Day is just around the corner. Rather than buying another tie or picture frame, create something special at color me mine. It costs less, is more fun and makes dad or grandpa feel extra special that you took the time to create something for him. My girls love painting and they like to personalize their gifts so they made their dad mugs two years in a row. He uses one at the office and one at home. He says everytime he has his morning coffee, he is reminded of his daughters. The girls are so pleased to see that their dad actually uses their gift. If you print the coupon, you get 10% off.
Tips for a perfect day without lifting a finger.

Ever since I became a mother 6 years ago, Mother’s Day has been a pain rather than a pleasure. I need to please my mother, my mother-in-law and the needs of my three children. This year, I have three great options from caterers I frequent who are reliable, delectable and affordable.
If you are a neurotic mother, like myself, trust me and lean on one of these options this year.
Don’t waste your time, money and energy grocery shopping and cooking. It’s your special day so sit back and relax while you are pampered and pleasantly surprised.
Spring Break is an opportune time to spend quality time with our kids.
Here are a few educational and fun local places to visit that you and your children will enjoy over spring break.
The Mann Theater at the Zimmer is fun for all ages. Your kids can put on customs and watch themselves perform on television.
Noah’s Ark is an ongoing interactive exhibition that is a must see for those who have not experienced it yet. There are several other exhibitions to see over the break too.
Color Me Mine is an art studio for all ages. You can spend hours creatively painting your masterpiece.
Scribble Press is a great place to publish your creativity and also offers classes over the break.

At birthday parties and other community events where children are involved these days, some type of entertainment is commonly included, ranging from clowns or princesses to bounce houses or pony rides. Among the most popular of activities at children’s events is face painting.
Children and parents alike enjoy the colorful flourish that face painting brings to parties and events. Face painting has become such a common staple at gatherings that face painting ‘artists’ abound. Therefore, it is important to verify that the products all face painters use are safe as well as colorful.
Welcome to the first issue of Los Angeles Mom Magazine. I am thrilled to have developed a site that will hopefully answer most of your mommy questions from how to treat the flu to planning your kids’ birthday parties.
Like yourselves, I am a Los Angeles mom who is always looking for hip, fun events to take my kids to. I am always searching for new, amazing entertainment and places for my kids’ birthday parties and don’t have hours to waste online.
The Event Planning section aims to help moms find all of their party needs with a click of a button. We will even have monthly articles by party planners and caterers on how to plan your events.
In March we will begin our listings section that will feature local entertainment companies and party places. Each of these sections will provide a short description of the company including a contact and price. Both adult and kids’ birthday parties can be searched by age and gender so you don’t have to spend hours looking through hundreds of listings.
I promise to only provide you with the best companies that I have personally seen or have been highly recommended by friends so that there will be no surprises.
If there are any party places or people you have used and think should be listed please email me at email@example.com.
